Only but a few have reached the status of Master Vegetablarian, and fewer yet have been awarded the title, World’s Second Greatest Living Gardener. Recognizing a landscape bereft of experts with extraordinary monikers, Tony Kienitz has graciously stepped in to fill the void.

Tony’s work focuses primarily on educating children and former children about gardening with plants that produce food. It is his belief that if every household in America, nay, the world, grew a portion of their daily meals from the soil beneath them, many of the cultural and ecological problems we face today would be mitigated. While one backyard apple tree and a single patch of snow peas won’t do squadoosh in our battle against climate change, several billion apple laden trees and several billion patches of snow peas very well might.

Tony also believes that it is pointless to teach semaphore to squirrels, that crossing guards are woefully under-tipped, and that The Fool still possesses the one voice that can speak honestly.

TONY KIENITZ' strictly organic and thoroughly conscientious philosophies of vegetable gardening are a result of not having, early in his career, enough disposable income to waste on expensive fertilizers and pesticides. Ah yes, the blessings of poverty. Upon learning that the chemical industries were selling, in essence, "snake-oil" to an audience of unwitting suckers, Tony decided to make his thoughts and beliefs readily available to people in a way that he hopes is inspiring, thoughtful and funny. Thus, Tony speaks often at universities, public gardens and to local garden clubs. Tony has also appeared on many HGTV garden shows as a guest expert. He has been a regular contributor to the Los Angeles Times Home section and was formerly the editor of California Gardener magazine.
